CareTria is seeking a driven and curious Junior Software Engineer to join our growing development team. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates, bootcamp graduates, self-taught developers, or anyone looking to launch their professional career in software development. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and enhance modern web applications that support our business and clients. We don't expect you to have all the answers from day one. Instead, we're looking for individuals with strong foundational skills, a passion for learning, and a thoughtful, problem-solving mindset. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Build and maintain user-facing features using React and Next.js. * Develop backend services and APIs with Node.js. * Work with relational databases using SQL. * Work with document databases such as MongoDB. * Write clear, maintainable, and well-tested code. * Fix bugs and investigate issues with support from the wider team. * Participate in code reviews and learn how to give and receive constructive feedback. * Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and other colleagues. * Use AI-assisted development tools to explore solutions, understand unfamiliar code, generate initial drafts, and improve productivity. * Review, test, and validate AI-generated code rather than accepting it without question. * Learn our development, testing, deployment, security, and monitoring practices. * Contribute to technical documentation and share what you learn. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: * A basic understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript. * Some experience with Node.js and React gained through study, personal projects, internships, a bootcamp, or previous work. * Familiarity with Next.js, or an interest in learning it. * A basic understanding of databases and experience with SQL, MongoDB, or both. * Familiarity with Git and common software-development workflows. * An understanding of fundamental web concepts such as HTTP, APIs, browser behavior, and client-server applications. * An interest in using AI coding tools responsibly and effectively. * The ability to explain your approach, ask questions, and seek help when needed. * A willingness to learn from feedback and steadily improve your skills. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Write clear prompts and provide useful technical context. * Use AI to investigate problems, explain concepts, draft tests, and suggest implementations. * Check generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability. * Verify suggestions by reading documentation, running tests, and understanding the code before submitting it. * Recognize when an AI-generated answer may be incomplete or incorrect. * Protect confidential information and follow company policies when using AI tools. * Personal, academic, open-source, or bootcamp projects you can discuss. * Experience with TypeScript. * Familiarity with automated testing. * Experience building or consuming REST or GraphQL APIs. * Basic knowledge of cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD, or deployment workflows. * An understanding of accessibility, web security, or responsive design. The actual compensation for the position may vary based on market differences and on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and can vary based on location and/or work schedule. In addition to base pay, CareTria offers a comprehensive benefits package.
